General Carpet Patching Disclosure

Compass Carpet Repair

Thank you for choosing Compass Carpet Repair. Carpet patching is a corrective repair process intended to remove damaged sections and extend the life of your existing carpet. Please review the following before service begins.

1. Purpose of Carpet Patching

Carpet patching is performed to:

  • Remove damaged areas (burns, stains, pet damage, bleach spots, tears, etc.)

  • Improve overall appearance

  • Prevent further unraveling or spreading damage

  • Extend the service life of the carpet

Carpet patching is a repair solution — not a replacement. The carpet will not be restored to new condition.

2. Donor Carpet & Matching

Donor carpet must be provided from:

  • Closets

  • Under furniture

  • Remnants

  • Customer-supplied material

Please note:

  • Exact color, dye lot, texture, or wear match cannot be guaranteed.

  • Carpet naturally fades and wears over time.

  • Donor carpet typically appears newer than surrounding installed carpet.

Lighting, pile direction, shading, and room conditions may affect the visibility of the repair.

3. Seam Visibility – Industry Standard (CRI 104)

According to CRI 104 Installation Standard, published by the Carpet and Rug Institute:

All seams are visible.

This means:

  • Seam lines are a normal and expected characteristic of carpet installation and repair.

  • No installer can guarantee completely invisible seams.

  • Patch repairs involve seam construction and therefore may be visible under certain lighting or viewing angles.

Compass Carpet Repair follows industry-accepted installation and repair standards.

4. Visibility of Repair

Even when properly installed using professional seam tape and adhesives:

  • The patch may remain slightly visible.

  • Texture differences may be noticeable.

  • Pattern alignment may not be exact.

  • Directional shading may highlight seam lines.

Certain carpet types (plush, patterned, Berber, frieze, loop pile) may show seam visibility more than others.

5. Carpet Age & Condition

Older or worn carpet may have:

  • Crushed fibers

  • Weak or deteriorated backing

  • Delamination

  • Dry rot

  • Prior repair attempts

If backing integrity is compromised, seam bonding strength may be reduced.

Hidden issues may only become apparent once carpet is lifted.

6. Seam Integrity & Longevity

Patch repairs rely on adhesive seam construction.

While professionally installed:

  • Repairs in high-traffic areas may wear faster.

  • Rolling chairs, pets, dragging furniture, and heavy foot traffic may reduce lifespan.

  • Severely worn carpet may not hold seams long term.

No repair can override the natural condition or lifespan of the carpet.

7. Subfloor, Padding & Odor Disclaimer

Compass Carpet Repair is not responsible for:

  • Damaged or contaminated padding

  • Subfloor moisture or structural issues

  • Mold or mildew beneath carpet

  • Pet urine contamination below surface

Carpet patching does not eliminate deep padding or subfloor odors.

8. Warranty

Compass Carpet Repair provides a limited workmanship guarantee on the seam installation only.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Pre-existing carpet deterioration

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Color fading

  • Manufacturing defects

  • Carpet beyond its serviceable lifespan

9. Limitation of Liability

Compass Carpet Repair is not liable for:

  • Pre-existing carpet damage

  • Manufacturing defects

  • Dye lot inconsistencies

  • Prior improper installation

  • Carpet at or beyond expected lifespan
